Committees and Boards

Westminster CUCC is organized through love of God, passion for justice, and democratic principles!

How We Do, What We Do

We have 5 different elected groups that have members who serve the church on everyone’s behalf.  Each person elected is a volunteer, and they serve in areas that interest and excite them.

Trustees are men and women who care for our finances, and care for our building.  The Trustees encourage a fearless community of giving, help us dream for the future and help us plan for it.

Education and Spiritual Growth is a group of folks who encourage our spiritual and intellectual growth as people and as Christians.  These people assist the educators for children and adults, they are often teachers themselves among our programs, they support activities and prayer opportunities for anyone who wants to learn more and go farther in their spiritual life.

The Deacons are 12 men and women and youth who provide a friendly welcome every Sunday, prepare our worship space, visit our elders and shut in members to share the love of the community with those who cannot be there.

Music and Arts is a group of people who continue to seek ways to enhance our worship space and our community prayer life through the arts, all kinds of arts…music of all kinds, graphic arts, fabric art, literary art.

S.O.N. (Serving Our Neighbors) members encourage us all in our determination to share the love of God with our city and its vulnerable and invisible citizens.  This dedicated group assists a variety of local organizations including a non-profit helping LGBT youth, one serving vulnerable and homeless women, children and families, and another supporting a hot meal program for seniors and shut ins. These are  just a few of their labors of love and care.

Each of these groups elects a chair or co-chairs who attend a monthly meeting, called Council, to report and share learnings from within their groups, to one another.

Our Church Moderator, who is elected to work closely with the pastor to assure that our entire church community is encouraged and growing, facilitates these meetings of Council.

2013 Annual Meeting.

This entire church body meets yearly, sometimes more than once a year, to discuss our future, our directions, our passions.  We meet to elect leaders, to pass a budget, to hire a pastor.  We have a Constitution and Bylaws and are a recognized 501c3.  All significant decisions are made together, with a vote for each person, and a voice for each person. (Voting is reserved for those who have chosen membership in our church.)

Other Committees

Westminster has other groups that support its members and friends in various actions and activities.

Our Conference

mdenton1Conference Minister Mike Denton speaks during a service
at Westminster.

Besides Westminster’s local labors and  involvement, we are proud to be a covenanted member of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Church of Christ, with 84 churches in Alaska, Washington and Northern Idaho.

Membership in the PNC-UCC reflects the form and function of our churches, with volunteers serving in various activities and groups on behalf of the greater church, and each church in covenant with every other.  All of the churches of the PNC-UCC come together yearly, at Annual Meeting, to sing, pray, play and work together for the greater good.  Our Conference Minister is the Rev. Mike Denton.
